Dokter!

Well, it’s official—after three days here, my toe has earned its place in the “I’ve Been to the Dokter” club. Not exactly the membership I was hoping for, but hey, here we are. Thankfully, this isn’t my first run-in with Bali mishaps, and on the grand scale of “oh no” moments, this one ranks pretty low. Let’s call that growth?

Now comes the real challenge—keeping my toe dry and dressed for the next week. And because the universe has a sense of humor, it just so happens to be wet season. Picture me, gracefully (read: awkwardly) hopping over flooded drains, dodging puddles like I’m in an obstacle course, and praying the rain doesn’t catch me off guard.

A Night of Chaos (ft. a Garbage Bag & a Power Outage)

Last night really upped the ante. It was a full-on thunderstorm, and just getting to the bathroom in my villa turned into a mission impossible moment—cue me, foot wrapped in a garbage bag, shuffling my way through the dark. And because Bali loves a bit of drama, the power in my room decided to check out, leaving me to navigate by sheer willpower.

Whatever works!

Thankfully, I always travel with an small torch (10/10 recommend), which saved me from a full toe vs. furniture situation. Charging my phone was another story, but at least the aircon stayed on, so I wasn’t lying there sweating, contemplating my life choices.

Navigating Tourist Clinics: What You Need to Know

💡 Quick Tip for Bali First-Timers: If you ever need a dokter while you’re here, be aware that some tourist clinics will try to charge a base fee of 250 AUD (or more) just for a consultation—especially in high-traffic areas. Don’t panic. You can absolutely find reputable clinics where a standard consultation is around 20 - 45 AUD, with procedures and medications (like antibiotics) as add-ons. The good news? Most clinics give you the meds on the spot, so there’s no need for a separate pharmacy run.

Turning This Into a Challenge? Maybe.

At this point, I’m considering making this a personal challenge: How many creative ways can I waterproof my foot? DIY rain boot? Toe umbrella? Stylish toe poncho? Let’s see where this takes me.

One thing’s for sure—the adventure continues.
