Dehydrated?
Image City Country Chic Accomodation
Ran low on garnishes, so I made a quick trip to Prahran Market for fresh limes—because let’s be real, no margarita is complete without them. Back at City Country Chic, I pop them in the oven to dehydrate, ready to add a little extra something to the next round of drinks.
Garnishes aren’t just for looks—they enhance flavor, aroma, and style. My go-to? Citrus wheels—lemon, lime, and orange—perfect for margaritas, gin & tonics, or anything that needs a zesty kick. They last for ages and always make a cocktail feel a little extra.
Bonus find? Some fresh rosemary from our building’s herb garden. A quick torch or a little clap between the hands releases its incredible aroma—amazing in a cocktail or Gin & Tonic.
And let’s talk storage—these gorgeous jars? Courtesy of my super-talented niece.
If I can make these at home, anyone can. Time to level up your cocktail game! 🍸
DIY Dehydrated Citrus Wheels: The Easiest Garnish You’ll Ever Make
No fancy chef skills needed—if you can slice fruit and turn on an oven, you’ve got this.
What You Need:
✔ Fresh limes, lemons, or oranges
✔ A mandoline (or a sharp knife if you’re feeling brave—I use this one from amazon; Mandoline)
✔ Baking paper
✔ Oven trays
✔ An airtight container for storage
How to Make Them:
Slice the citrus super thin—the thinner, the better. A mandoline makes this way easier.
Line your oven trays with baking paper and lay the slices out in a single layer (no overlapping!).
Pop them in the oven before bed at the lowest temperature possible (you basically want to dry them out, not cook them).
In the morning, flip them over, then let them keep going until they’re completely crisp—they should snap clean in half when they’re ready.
Transfer to an airtight container, and boom—perfect citrus garnishes, ready to go!
Use them for cocktails, mocktails, or even a fancy touch in your water. They last for ages and instantly upgrade any drink. Cheers! 🍸
